P. K. Basu is a member of the Indian Administrative Service. He has worked on power sector reforms during the nineties negotiating private power projects on behalf of the government and drafting of the regulatory Bill. Since 2000, he has been deeply involved in the disinvestment programme of Government of India. He has direct experience of privatization and disinvestment through handling over thirty transactions in the last four years including such big and complicated transactions such as disinvestment of IPCL, VSNL, Maruti and Jessop and the series of IPOs undertaken by government from Maruti to the recently concluded NTPC IPO.
